Masai Mara-Only Safaris, 1 to 7 Days

All overnight road packages leave Nairobi at 7:00 AM and enter through Sekenani Gate. The day trip leaves earlier, at 4:30 AM. Each link opens the full day-by-day itinerary, tier table and peak-season prices.

1 Day Masai Mara Safari: from KES 43,000. A 4:30 AM start, one long game drive with a picnic lunch, back in Nairobi after dark. Choose this only if you cannot stay the night.

2 Days Masai Mara Safari: from KES 62,500 / USD 660. One night at Mara Sidai, Enchoro or Mara Eden, an afternoon drive on arrival and a morning drive before the 10 AM exit. The cheapest overnight option from Nairobi.

3 Days Masai Mara Safari: from KES 98,500 / USD 1,025. Two nights and three game drives, including a full day inside the reserve with a packed lunch at the Mara River. Our most-booked package and the one we recommend for a first visit.

4 Days Masai Mara Safari: from KES 132,000 / USD 1,350. Three nights give you a second full morning in the reserve and a whole day across the river in the Mara Triangle.

5 Days Masai Mara Safari: from KES 168,000 / USD 1,680. Four nights split between the reserve and a conservancy camp. In migration season this is the package that gives you real odds at a river crossing.

6 Days Masai Mara Safari: from KES 198,000 / USD 1,980. Five nights at Mara Explorer, Sekenani Camp or Acacia Camp, with the option of a Nakuru or Naivasha stop on the way back.

7 Days Masai Mara Safari: from KES 228,000 / USD 2,280. Six nights in the Mara and nowhere else, split between the National Reserve for the river crossings and a private conservancy such as Mara North or Naboisho for night drives and walking safaris. If you want the Rift Valley lakes or Amboseli as well, see the combination routes below.

Masai Mara Flying Packages: from KES 165,000 / USD 1,500 for 3 days / 2 nights. Wilson Airport to a bush airstrip in under an hour, game drives in the camp’s vehicles.

Mara and the Rift Valley lakes. Nakuru (rhinos, flamingos) and Naivasha (boat rides, Hell’s Gate on foot or by bike) sit on the road to the Mara, so each adds one night and no backtracking. Doing both? See the Mara, Nakuru and Naivasha loop.

Mara and Samburu or Tsavo. Samburu brings the dry-country species (Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, gerenuk) that the Mara does not have. Tsavo brings red elephants and Mzima Springs and connects to the coast. Add a lake on the Mara, Samburu and Nakuru route, or both parks on the Mara, Amboseli and Tsavo circuit.

How Masai Mara Safari Prices Work

The price depends on four things: the season, the accommodation tier, how many people share the vehicle, and whether you drive or fly in.

Season. Low season is January to June, peak is July to December. Most of the difference is park fees and camp rates rather than our margin. A 3-day budget safari is KES 98,500 in low season and KES 187,000 in peak. The premium tier runs KES 215,000 to KES 285,000.

Tier. Every package comes in four tiers. Budget uses camps such as Mara Sidai, Enchoro Wildlife Camp and Aruba Mara. Mid-range uses Sentrim Mara and Ashnil Mara Camp. Luxury uses Mara Serena and Sarova Mara Game Camp. Premium uses Governors’ Camp, Mara Intrepids and Kichwa Tembo. The full list is on our Masai Mara camps page.

Group size. Prices are for two adults sharing a private Land Cruiser. Four to six people in one vehicle cut the per-person cost by 20 to 35%, because fuel and the guide are shared. Solo travellers pay a single supplement, so ask for the exact figure for your dates.

What is included

  • Private 4×4 Land Cruiser with pop-up roof, fuel and a TRA-licensed driver-guide
  • Full-board accommodation at the listed camps
  • Daily Masai Mara park fees paid to Narok County, and KWS fees for Nakuru, Amboseli or Tsavo stops paid through the KWS eCitizen portal
  • Bottled water on game drives and AMREF Flying Doctors evacuation cover

What is not included

  • Tips: about KES 1,000 to 1,500 a day for your guide, plus whatever you want to leave for the camp staff
  • International flights, Kenya’s eTA (about KES 3,900 / USD 30) and drinks beyond water
  • Optional extras such as a hot air balloon flight from KES 58,500 (USD 500) per person, or a Maasai village visit at KES 1,500 (USD 20)

Park fees, 2027. Non-resident adults pay USD 100 per person per day from January to June and USD 200 from July to December. Kenyan citizens pay KES 1,500 and KES 3,000. A ticket runs 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and if you sleep inside the reserve you must exit by 10:00 AM on your last day or pay another full day. Our packages are planned around that clock. Full rates for citizens, residents and children are on the park fees page, and the safari cost guide shows where every shilling goes.

How to Choose the Right Package

How many days. Two days gives you one afternoon drive and one morning drive. It works from Nairobi if that is all the time you have, but the drive in and out eats most of it. Three days is the right length for a first visit: two nights, three game drives, and a full day inside the reserve with no gate clock to watch. Four or five days is when you can add the Mara Triangle or a night in a conservancy and still see the river crossings in season.

Road or fly. Driving from Nairobi takes 5 to 6 hours each way on tarmac to Sekenani Gate, and the Land Cruiser then stays with you for every game drive. Flying from Wilson Airport takes 45 to 60 minutes, but you give up the vehicle: game drives are in the camp’s shared vehicles, and luggage is capped at 15 kg in soft bags. Fly if you have two days or less or are heading to a conservancy camp. Drive for everything else. Compare on the flying packages and Nairobi to Masai Mara pages.

Reserve or conservancy. The National Reserve has the river crossings, the Marsh and Paradise prides and the lowest nightly rates. The private conservancies (Olare Motorogi, Mara North, Naboisho, Ol Kinyei) cap sightings at about five vehicles and allow night drives, walking safaris and off-road driving, which the reserve bans. Their conservation fees are bundled into the room rate, so they cost more per night, but you pay no reserve gate fee while you stay on conservancy land. Drive into the National Reserve for the river crossings and the normal daily park fee applies, USD 200 a person in peak season.

Mara only or a combination. If you have four days or more, adding Lake Nakuru (rhinos and flamingos, 3 hours from Nairobi) or Lake Naivasha (boat rides, Hell’s Gate cycling) costs one extra night and breaks up the drive. Amboseli (elephants against Kilimanjaro) needs at least five days because it sits on the other side of Nairobi. Samburu, Tsavo and the coast only make sense on 7-day-plus circuits.

When to go. July to October for the migration and the highest prices. January to March for dry, uncrowded big-cat viewing. April to May for the lowest rates and green plains, provided you are in a 4×4. Month-by-month detail is on the best time to visit page, and our first-time safari guide covers what to pack.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a Masai Mara safari package cost? From KES 62,500 (USD 660) per person for 2 days and KES 98,500 (USD 1,025) for 3 days, two sharing, low season, budget tier. Peak season (July to December) is about 1.4 to 2 times higher. Prices include the vehicle, guide, fuel, full board and park fees.

Are park fees included in your packages? Yes. Masai Mara fees (USD 100 or 200 per non-resident per day, depending on season) are paid to Narok County before you arrive, and KWS fees for Nakuru, Amboseli and Tsavo are paid through the eCitizen portal. The only gate costs not included are optional extras such as a village visit.

Do you have packages for Kenyan citizens and residents? Every package has a KES price for citizens and residents. Citizens pay lower park fees, and the saving is passed through in full. Carry your ID or resident permit, because the gate checks it.

What vehicle do you use? A private 4×4 Toyota Land Cruiser with a pop-up roof for every road package. We do not use 2WD minivans. After rain the black cotton tracks inside the reserve are not safe for them.

Can I join a group to lower the cost? We run private vehicles only, but four to six people sharing one Land Cruiser brings the per-person price down by 20 to 35%. If you are travelling alone, ask us about dates when another couple has booked the same departure.

Which package is best for a first safari? The 3 days Masai Mara safari. Two nights give you a full day inside the reserve without watching the gate clock, and it fits a long weekend from Nairobi.

Can I see the wildebeest migration on a 3-day package? Yes, between July and October. The herds are in the reserve for about four months, so a 3-day trip in that window will see them. A river crossing on a specific day is never guaranteed. A 4 or 5-day package gives you more chances at the crossing points.

How do I book? Send your dates, group size and preferred tier through our quote form or WhatsApp. We reply with an itemised quote within 24 hours, confirm camp availability, and hold the booking on a deposit. How it works step by step is on the booking page.
