Musiara Gate is located in the northwest corner and is another popular entry point for tourists due to its variety of wildlife. It is about 210 km from Nairobi, making it a relatively accessible gate.
It leads directly into grasslands where you can find cheetahs, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, wildebeests and zebras during game drives.
The nearby camps and lodges include Mara Serena Safari Lodge, Fig Tree Camp, Governor’s Il Moran Camp, Kichwa Tembo Tented Camp, Miti Mingi Eco-Camp, Royal Mara Safari Lodge and Angama Mara.
Talek Gate is located on the south of the reserve and is about 220 km by road from Nairobi. It leads directly to the famous Mara River that traverses through Masai Mara National Reserve, where you can find a large variety of wildlife including huge herds of elephants, buffaloes and hippos.
The nearby camps and lodges include Mara Explorer Camp, Kicheche Bush Camp, Mara Leisure Camp, and Porini Mara Camp.
Oloololo Gate is located on the western side of the reserve and is about 220 km from Nairobi by road. It leads to a large number of wildlife hotspots, including Leopard Gorge, Mara Triangle and Rhino Ridge.
During game drives, you can often see lions, cheetahs, leopards and wildebeests. The nearby camps and lodges include Mara Intrepids Camp, Ol Seki Hemingways Mara Camp, and BaseCamp Explorer Masai Mara.
Sekani Gate is located on the outskirts of Sekenani town on the east side of the reserve and is one of the more popular gates due to its proximity to various camps and lodges. It leads directly into an area with plenty of wildlife, including big cats like lions and leopards.
Some of the popular camps and lodges near Sekenani Gate include Sekenani Camp which takes you close to nature without going to the reserve. Others are AA Lodge Masai Mara, Mara Sweet Acacia Lodge, Keekorok Lodge, Mara Springs Safari Camp, Sarova Game Camp, Oldarpoi Mara Camp, Enkolong Tented Camp, Mtito Safari Camp, and Kimana Mara Tented Camp.
Sekenani Gate is about 225 km from Nairobi and is accessible by both road and air, and that’s how to get to the Mara from the capital city. It is considered the main gate of the Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya and is regularly used by most guests to check in and out of the park at the end of a game drive.
Kichwa Tembo Gate is located in the northern part of the reserve and is about 210 km from Nairobi. It leads to a grassy area with a high concentration of wildlife, including elephants, lions, leopards and buffaloes.
The nearby camps and lodges include AA Lodge Masai Mara, Asilia Africa’s Kichwa Tembo Tented Camp, BaseCamp Explorer Masai Mara, Fig Tree Camp and Royal Mara Safari Lodge.
Kichwa Tembo Gate is another main gate to Masai Mara, as it provides access to Miti Mingi Eco-Camp and Asilia Africa’s Kichwa Tembo Tented Camp.
Guests visiting the Sand River gate can explore the river and Mara Triangle area, which has a high density of wildlife. This area is known for its large herds of elephants, buffaloes and wildebeests.

Oloolaimutia Gate is located on the western side as well and is about 225 km from Nairobi. It leads to an area of rolling plains which are home to a wide variety of wildlife, including elephants, giraffes and zebras.
