A Secluded Safari Retreat with Unmatched Comfort and Personalized Service

Hidden away along the serene Ntiakatek River, Richard’s River Camp is an exclusive getaway, one of just eleven safari camps in the remote Mara North Conservancy. The landscape surrounding the camp is nothing short of breathtaking, with Ngoyanai Springs-a year-round water source-nurturing verdant plains and drawing in a variety of wildlife. One of the camp’s most remarkable features is its resident lion pride, often seen prowling nearby. As darkness falls, their deep roars ripple through the stillness, adding a thrilling soundtrack to the wilderness.

This luxury tented camp features only seven tents-six standard and one for families-ensuring a personalized and peaceful stay for solo travelers, families, and groups of friends. Every visit directly supports conservation efforts in the Masai Mara, including initiatives ensure human-wildlife conflict mitigation. Opting for a stay in Mara North Conservancy unlocks exclusive perks unavailable in the busier Masai Mara National Reserve. Guests can venture out on night drives, take scenic bush walks, and enjoy cultural visits for an immersive cultural experience. With strict visitor limits, the conservancy offers an uncrowded, uninterrupted safari experience, unlike the often-bustling National Reserve.

Richard’s River Camp effortlessly blends luxury with a laid-back atmosphere. Owner Liz has personally sourced unique fabrics and furnishings from her travels, infusing the camp with a distinctive yet inviting style. The tents are bright and airy, exuding a home-like feel with a touch of understated elegance. Spacious interiors provide maximum comfort, while the family tent offers ample room for a shared safari adventure. Outdoor showers deliver hot water with strong pressure, and each tent is thoughtfully positioned to maximize privacy. Sustainability is a core principle, with the camp relying entirely on solar energy. Guests enjoy round-the-clock security, designated charging areas, complimentary Wi-Fi, laundry services, and access to a well-stocked library. While children are welcome, they must be closely supervised due to the presence of wildlife.

Dining at Richard’s River Camp is a social and immersive experience. Meals are served family-style, prepared by skilled chefs who craft a variety of flavorful dishes. On clear evenings, dinners take place under the stars at a beautifully set candlelit table. When the weather calls for an indoor setting, the mess tent offers an elegant communal dining area alongside a cozy lounge.

With its open-front design, the mess tent ensures uninterrupted views of the surrounding wilderness, allowing guests to stay connected to nature even while dining. Memorable bush dinners beneath the vast African sky and scenic breakfast spreads on the open plains add a special touch to the culinary experience. Dietary preferences, including vegetarian and gluten-free options, can be accommodated upon request. In keeping with the camp’s eco-conscious approach, mineral water is provided in large recyclable containers in all tents.

Tripadvisor comments Richard's River Camp

This is glamping at its best!! What an experience we had. We spent 4 nights at Richard’s River Camp and absolutely loved it. The tent lodging was fantastic. Rustic and charming. Bathroom was great with an outdoor shower. Every morning started with coffee or tea brought to the tent and then we were off for safari jeep rides thru the Masai Mara National Reserve. Such a beautiful country with such an abundance of wildlife. Our driver/guide, Lenny and our spotter Kapute made this trip awesome. So knowledgeable and accommodating. The breakfast and “ sundowners” on the Mara plains were just mesmerizing. The staff at Richard’s Camp was so helpful, friendly and fun and must mention that the food was just out of this world. Thank you Richard’s Camp for such an unforgettable time at this beautiful place.

Richard's Camp is the epitome of a traditional safari camp. What a delight! The tents are quite luxurious with very comfy beds and pillows. In the evening, it was wonderful to find a hot water bottle tucked in between the covers and the mattress. The outdoor shower is special. Often we found a puppet monkey or a mongoose observing us showering from a nearby tree. The grounds are out of a fairytale. Our driver and tracker, Nambaso and Sedera were just the best. We were able to see the big five, the great migration, and so much more. The breakfasts, lunches, and sundowners on the Maasai Mara were just beyond words. The food was varied and very well prepared and presented. The staff cannot have done more to make our stay a dream come true. Our particular thanks to Calvince, Alpha, Susan, Patrick, Sophie, and Klint. Until we meet again, Asante sana.

We spent 3 nights at this camp and loved every minute. The management staff… Sara, Sofie and Klint … were always on hand to answer any questions or just make sure you are happy. There are only 9 tents and your group has a private jeep and personal guide throughout your stay. Our guide- John- was a Masai, super knowledgeable and excellent in every way. We enjoyed the campfire cocktail hour, the breakfasts served on morning game drives, the sundowners, the group dinners - but especially lots and lots of game… lions, giraffes, hippos, elephants, a leopard, zebra, and wildebeest herds, impala, waterbucks, topi, baboons, wart hogs. The highlight was a special surprise celebration of our 58th anniversary we will never forget! thank you for everything!
